Ardrossan is a town set on the North Ayrshire coast with spectacular views over to the Isle of Arran.
It is rich in community assets: with many active community groups, volunteering programmes, local enterprises and individual gifts and talent. Its physical assets include Whitlees Community Centre, the Three Towns Motor project, bowling club, library, churches, green spaces as well as the sea front.
Almost 25% of the population are classified as employment deprived; which is significantly higher than the North Ayrshire and national rate.
Community Renewal is working with the Big Lottery Fund to deliver the Our Place initiative in the Ardrossan Central and North East neighbourhood, to empower local residents make the long term changes they wish to see.
We opened the Our Place office in Glasgow Street – the main commercial street in Ardrossan and have worked with local community groups and individuals to build up a picture of priorities for the local community and identify positive changes they would like to make. These have included tackling unemployment and drug and alcohol issues prevalent in the town; providing more opportunities for young people; making Ardrossan safer with less crime and vandalism; upgrading pavements and bus shelters and providing more night time activities and activities for elderly residents.

In August 2015 we held an ‘Imagine Ardrossan’ event to bring people together and share their views.
The next phase of our work will see us working with the local community to make this vision a reality.
